Last February 4th and 5th 2012 was held at the Mediterranean Prosthodontic Institute the two-days advanced course "Excellence in Implant Prosthodontics", which was attended by doctors coming from Russia and Italy.

The course started on Saturday February 4th, with the reception of the assitants at the Mediterranean Prosthodontic Institute and give them the material of the course: folder with printed lectures, anatomical models from Bone Models for hands-on workshops, CD with lectures in high resolution pdf format, CD with a collection of articles and recommended literature and accreditations. After that, the first lecture was taught "Prosthetic determinants in oral implantology" and served as an introduction to the topics to be teached later in the course.

After this lecture, the MABBL Protocol (Most Apical Buccal Bone Level) was taught. This protocol has been designed by Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya and takes the most apical and often most complicated point, such as the reference to develop all further treatment.

At this point in the course, assistants got lunch, and tasted the typical Spanish cuisine.

After the meal the lecture "Types of Smiles" was taught, with an eminently aesthetic and descriptive focus, offered attendees information about the types of smiles and the length of the lips, and the amount of tooth left exposed depending on the age, gender or race.

The next theoretical lecture was, as assitants requested, "Complications in implant therapy". In this lecture Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya showed those cases where there have been various controversies and difficulties, always focusing on how to solve them through a solid treatment plan aimed at specific targets.

The last lecture of the day was titled "100% Zirconia restorations" in which Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya presented as a novelty, complete restorations developed on a piece of zirconium and that are supported with dental implants.

At the end of the first day of course, assistants and MPI staff had a walk through the center of Castellon, visiting several textile, pottery and cuisine shops. This route ended in Luis Bolumar's study of Art, which showed his work, and the technique used for the realization of prints, and gave the audience a dedicated book of his work.

The day ended with an informal dinner at La Notaria, located in the center of Castellon next to the main church, where attendees were able to share experiences and knowledge with Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya.

The second day of the course began with the lecture "3 millimeter implants" in which Dr. Rojas showed the necessary distances required in the placement of implants for a good placement of the prosthesis, and for the correct management of soft tissue.

After that was the lecture entitled "Restoring the incisal edge" which was not in the initial program, but was included in because of assistants asked for. This lecture focused on the necessary steps for the correct determination of the incisal edge, which is very important in prosthodontics, oral surgery and esthetics.

The next lecture was "Use of OsseoSpeed™ TX Profile of Astra Tech with different types of abutments and restorations", and in which Dr. Rojas made an introduction of the implant, its right placement, as well as several cases in which it was used by himself.

After a coffee, assistants started the first hands-on workshop, placing some implants on a model made by Bone Models under the supervision of Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya, reproducing an edentulous patient.

Returning to the theory, the lecture entitled "Cantilever" was taught. On it, assistants saw different complications and problems that may arise after placing implants in molar position.

The next lecture by Dr. Rojas to attendees was about "Digital Clinical Photography", including on it all key facts to take good pictures both intraoral and extraoral, in models and patients.

The last theoretical lecture was as assistants requested "Single Screw Retained", in which Dr. Rojas showed step by step the treatment applied to one of his patients.

After that was the certificate to the assitants, and were escorted to the hotel, where they were given two more CDs including one with the selection of the best pictures taken during the course, and the other included the extra lectures and added to it.

Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya and all the Mediterranean Prosthodontic Institute staff wishes to thank these two days to Drs Dina Solodkaya, Dmitry Sobolev, Svyatoslav Timchenko, Varvara Vislenko and Anibal Garcia, as well as the good time and professionalism that prevailed during the course.

The next conference of Dr. Fernando Rojas will be on February 10-11, at the Seattle Study Club in Santiago de Compostela.

The next advanced course at the Mediterranean Prosthodontic Institute is the four-day advanced course "Esthetics and prosthodontics in oral implantology", which in its third edition, will be taught in Spanish. Registration for this course is open.
